Hair Systems

Just so we don't confuse matters here - hair systems have been around for hundreds of years. The ancient Egyptians even used them. They've just changed names over time. They used to be called wigs but no one likes to use the word. A system/wig is a last resort for anyone, male or female. But at the same time it's nothing to be ashamed of. When you mention wig you automatically think of someone who looks like they just cut off a section of their living room carpet, stuck some hair on it and glued it to their head.

There are advantages and disadvantages of using a system. The obvious advantage is that it is an instant remedy. As soon as you're measured up the hair is ordered and you go in to have it fitted, usually with an adhesive.

The disadvantage is that it isn't really your own hair and you will have to go back to the clinic monthly to have it taken off, cleaned and re-applied at an additional cost.

Hair Weaves

This is when actual human hair or artificial hair is attached to your own hair giving it the appearance of being thicker. However, in the process, it can damage your existing healthy hair.

Hair Systems

As mentioned, hair systems have come a long way from what they used to be. You'd probably be surprised at how good they are right now. Human or synthetic hair is bonded to a base and the base is then attached to the scalp.

Note that when buying a system chances are you will be offered two of them. Reasoning behind it is simple. When you go back to the clinic to get one cleaned up, the other will be attached to let you roam free with a head of hair. The other reason is, you may accidentally damage it.

Systems can be glued, taped or stitched onto the scalp. It will differ from one hair loss company to the other.

Hair systems aren't cheap. If you want one that no one will notice then you will have to set a budget. Anywhere from £1000 to £4000. I have seen men with hair systems going for a swim and believe me, you would think it was their own hair. Don't go for a system if it's cheap. You will be sorry. Make my words.

Hair Integration

This involves a very light base (often called a membrane) being attached to your scalp first. This membrane is practically invisible. Over time hair is gradually added to the membrane so it appears that your hair is growing back. The results of this hair system need to be seen to be believed.

As with other systems you need to be prepared to fork out the extra cash because they don't come cheap.
