Preventing Hair Loss
They say the easiest way to cure something is to prevent it from happening in the first place . This is also
true for hair loss but hair loss prevention isn't easy. The problem is, hair loss isn't like catching the cold.
Hair loss is in your genetics and can happen as result in the change in your body chemistry. Prevention of hair
loss is our aim. So what should you do?
The first thing that you shouldn't do is PANIC. If you see a few extra hair in the brush or even extra
hairs wash down the plug hole in the shower - don't worry about it. Your body will shed hair every day. It's all
part of the growth cycle. They shed so that new hairs can grow in its place. Some hairs are so small that you can't
see them. Some people I know get freaked out because they see more hairs on the brush than they'd like. Doesn't
mean you're losing your hair.
If you do feel that it's something more than just shedding then go and see a doctor. Don't ask your
haidresser, they really haven't a clue about hair loss. There's no point in seeking out a hair loss solution if you
don't actually have hair loss.
If you are starting to lose your hair what steps can you take to prevent
it?
1. Quit smoking. It's doens't stop hair loss but it sure as hell doesn't encourage hair
growth.
2. Eat a healthier diet. You need to take care of your body.
3. Avoid over expensive shampoos. Some shampoos that receive heavy marketing on TV can actually do
your hair more damage than good.
4. Take cod liver oil. It doesn't stop hair loss but it keeps you existing hair
healthy.
Everything I listed above are things you have control over. As I've said before there is no magic
formula to stop hair loss but you can take steps to keep your hair healthy.
Are you looking for an actual hairloss prevention product?
Propecia As Prevention (propecia picture here)
If you want to prevent male pattern baldness then you need to prevent DHT forming in
your scalp. Propecia (Finasteride) directly attack DHT in this way. Men who have hairloss in their family are
starting to take Propecia at the first sign of hairloss and some have claimed that it's completely stopped any
further hairloss. There are no medical studies on this. Could Propecia prevent hairloss if taken early enough? I
believe it could.
Rogaine As Prevention (rogain picture here)
For many years Rogain (Minoxidil) was the only treatment on the market to have any
effect on hairloss at all. Could you use Rogaine as a preventative measure to stop your hairloss getting any worse?
You can definitely take this step but Rogaine will only be partially effective in this regard. Firstly because it
can cause shedding when it's first used (the hair grows back don't worry) and secondly it's a topical treatment; it
won't be as effective as an oral treatment like Propecia.

Contrary to popular belief - the power of positive thinking will not prevent or slow
the loss of hair. |
